In the federal court system a Bankruptcy Judge is an officer of the court, ranking below a Federal District Court Judge that oversees bankruptcy proceedings. The Bankruptcy Judge is appointed by the Judges of the United States Court of Appeals for the federal district in which the District Court is located. A Bankruptcy Judge’s decision can be appealed to the District Court in which he or she sits.
