Although the purpose of bankruptcy proceedings such as chapter 7 are to give the debtor a “clean slate” and most debts are dischargeable, not all debts are dischargeable. Dischargeable debts include, but are not limited to debts such as credit card debt, medical bills, personal loans and utilities. Non-dischargeable debts include, but are not limited to, alimony, child support, taxes and almost all student loan debt.
